What’s This About? Have you ever noticed that there can be a whole layer of communication happening beyond what is being said?

With some people, we suddenly feel the need to impress, to prove ourselves, or to avoid feeling less capable. With others, we may feel unusually protective, cautious, attracted, irritated, or responsible. These feelings can arise even when the spoken words or the situation itself do not fully explain the intensity of our reaction.

Where does this second layer come from - and why does it play such an important role in shaping our intimate relationships?

This talk explores one possible lens for understanding these experiences: transference. We will look at where this phenomenon comes from, why it plays such an important role in psychotherapy, especially in psychodynamic approaches, and how communicating our inner experience in a more authentic way can help us build healthier and more meaningful relationships.

Together, we will explore questions such as:

- What happens beneath the surface of our interactions — beyond the words we say? - What role do these dynamics play in psychotherapy, and why are they considered essential in many therapeutic approaches? - What happens when we bring our inner experience into our close relationships in an honest and authentic way? - The session includes a 60-minute talk, followed by a guided group exercise and open discussion.

Who’s It For? Anyone interested in psychology, relationships, and understanding themselves better. No prior psychological knowledge is needed.
